I know there is a recession on at the moment and I understand that actors, just like everybody else, need to earn a crust, but why in holy hell did Marc Macaulay appear in this poor excuse for a movie, lets call it a 'Film Substitute' from now an shall we? In case your unfamiliar (that means "don't know") with his work, there's 'Edward Scissorhands', 'Monster', 'Drive Angry' the list is very long but 'this' crap is really lowering his all ready quite low standards. Can a real actor recover from this sort of thing?Well now, this film has everything the discerning Redneck could ever want, atrocious acting, tractors, WWF Wrestlers, 4 wheel drive contests, loads of T&A, very bad acting, oh wait, bad acting's been said, hot Gypsy chicks with huge breasts that drive hot-rods....the list just goes on. Nearly forgot to mention the enforced mud wrestling.The problem with this flick is that they should have stopped with just using bad 'Honey Boo Boo' style acting but they had to try to use a fancy storyline (no Vampires at least). An ancient curse that involves wearing colored contacts and staring really, really hard at people while copying the neck movement of an Owl. I hope the writer got paid a little extra for that one. Here's a thought, will they ever put this garbage onto Blu-ray? (Shudder)If your fed up with watching "real" movies then give one of these new fangled 'Film Substitutes' a try. I enjoyed this movie and will watch again, instead of at 1 am . I would watch this with my mom who volunteered at a center that counsels young women before they decide what to do. Unwanted pregnancy in the leading cause of abortions. Fear, the stigma still placed on un wed mothers, society norms all put pressure on any young woman to delete the unknown. When a woman has the baby, inevitably, they fall in love. Maybe they make the choice, sometimes a good one, for the child to go to a loving home. I think most times the mom, and dad if he is involved are filled with doubts when they make that decision, yet a better one than termination just because it is unwanted. I enjoyed the theme of this movie, the message as well as the unusual storyline. A good although easily spotted twist. I will liken this to a Touched by an Angel episode. WAS it? LOL>..MOstly I want to find the lovely song at the end...May all little angels born and gone to soon or those who never saw the light, Rest in His arms. Suffer the little children for such is the KINGDOM. I believe they are waiting...and they do not need to be baptized to go..jus sayen.

For a history buff as I am, this was a very unforgiving work of high integrity, I believe. I am still aghast at the brutality of WWI; there are so many untold stories that are being further elided with the passage of time. The longstanding conflict between Russia and Finland is not well known to Americans. The focus on the war in France overshadows the other battlefronts too. This story does not really spend any time on character development, but focuses on one small, cruel action on the periphery of The Great War, as it was known.I have to remind myself how Finland was beaten up by Russia over the years because the alliance with the Nazis during WWII has sullied Finland for many Americans. As I understand, the Finns were really caught between two awful choices, and they chose the Germans to avoid allying themselves with the much-hated Russians. (That's a real oversimplification.) Anyway, this film was unrelentingly brutal and sad, exemplifying the terrible waste of life, the confusion, the hopelessness and pointlessness and impersonal nature of war. A troupe of young patriots try to hold off the encroaching Russian forces and in so doing are killed or wounded in various terrible ways. They show great courage, cruelty and brotherhood. Some of the background photos and film are authentic, and it always gives one an eerie and wrenchingly sad feeling to see these poor souls trapped in vicious circumstances, their lives and hopes and individuality swept away by History.

Where do I start? Some movies ARE so bad they're good. I love cheesy movies and was in stitches for most of such classics as 'Killer Clowns from Outer Space', Megashark vs Giant Octopus', and 'Robot Jox'. This I did not love. It was annoying. I'm just not entirely sure why this was simply bad and not cheesy. Awful acting, Awful plot (in fact, practically none), poor casting, poor direction, bad special effects. Actually, they weren't ALL bad - maybe the production was taken over seriously. Nope, that can't be it as it's already been pointed out the costumes and props were from entirely different time periods (CCTV cameras on walls anyone?)I think it was simply a lack of care about any single part of the filmmaking process. It's like someone just stood in the street, shouted 'Who wants to make a film that's very loosely based on Jack and the Beanstalk', and the least interested people within earshot all inexplicably volunteered. Don't watch this film (unless you're imminently dying and have nothing better to do when I guess it might actually make your remaining time feel longer)

(Stephan Streker, director) The film begins with the stab of a knife, and yes, we already know that the film will end with the same stabbing... The story tells us that ordinary lives could be as dangerous as extraordinary lives and, it may seem conflicting, that extraordinary lives could be as simple as ordinary lives at the same time. A movie, as the director says, that leaves the viewer intelligent and free and, I dare add, that will make you "think" in the strong sense of the word. A very good film that is worth to be seen!

CANAKKALE 1915 isn't a great film, to be honest; rather obvious CGI effects cannot obscure the fact that there are few actors and a minimum of props available. There are a few obvious anachronisms: the British commanders are played by Turks with American accents talking about "the get-go" rather than "the beginning" of the military campaign - a phrase certainly not in use in 1915. But these are minor quibbles in a film that not only celebrates the unity of the Turkish nation, with everyone men, women and children - playing their part in the war-effort, but suggests that success in battle came from a shared sense of purpose: no one was going to colonize Anatolian territory. With God's help, and a considerable amount of military know-how from Mustafa Kemal - later to become Ataturk, founder of the Turkish Republic - the Turkish army succeeded in their campaign against apparently impossible odds. The film suggests that national unity is as important today as it was nearly a century ago, as a way of defending oneself against invaders. At times we understand just how important such values as patriotism, the family, and religion are to members of the Turkish nation - values that, in parts of the west at least, are often overlooked.

The landscapes scenes transcend the clichés of "beautiful nature" and reveal it as sometimes magnificent, sometimes dangerous, and often simply what nature at the end of the day is; a universe we did not make that is neither for nor against us.The story line has been done many times, but there is a freshness in this film, an immediacy, and a sense of deft actuality that places you there. An astonishing Fellini-esque delve into murder, passion, betrayal and reinvention, Dario Nardi's ambitious Sadourni's Butterflies (Las Mariposas de Sadourni) is a beautifully strange and at times surreal bit of cinema likely to be a fixture on the festival circuit over coming months.The film, which had its world premiere at the Dubai International Film Festival, is a deliriously dark and often disturbing tale that will intrigue cinema lovers. Presented in lustrous black-and-white it is brimming with classic film references, mainly in its love for classic silent cinema. It is an odd story and an acquired one to be certain, but its sheer timeless oddness could well appeal to niche distributors.The film opens briskly and violently to the point. Circus dwarf Sadourni (Cristian Medrano) recalls how he was sentenced to a lengthy prison term – it involves a magician, a robbery, a betrayal and catching his pregnant wife making love to another, leading to a brutal double murder – and how, having served half of his sentence he is due for temporary release thanks to his good conduct.He is allowed to leave the prison on a daily basis in order to start re- joining society, but struggles to try and find a job (cue amusing scenes of him at a bar looking through a newspaper where all of the adverts are for 'normal people') and feels increasingly dissatisfied by his stature. At the circus he had a strong position, but in ordinary society he feels lost.He finds a possible – though expensive – solution with Dr Simonki (Ale Sergi) who has developed a system to help him gain height through a strange stretching system, though to raise the money needed he capitalises on his condition as a dwarf by working for a fetish company, meeting Alexia (Antonella Costa) who works there and with whom he develops a strong relationship.Eventually he breaks the conditions of his parole by confining himself to Simonki's office to undergo the 'treatment', with the police hot on his heels and Alexia desperate to find out what has happened to him.Beautifully shot and structured and packed with funny, strange and memorable moments, Sadourni's Butterflies is always intriguing and unusual with Cristian Medrano impressive as Sadourni, a darkly determined character driven to violence who simply wants to fit into society. It is a complex and self-consciously surreal film, but certainly one that is relentlessly intriguing and stylish.

Good Movie. I have seen a good new Bangladeshi movie after a long interval. I think it's a new era for Bangladeshi Film industry. A new dimension in the history of Bangladeshi Film. The actor and actress are better suited. Plot and story lines are better matched. Locations are pretty good. Mahiya Mahi is exquisitely beautiful. The performance of the characters is fairly good. The acting and the emotions are heart touching. Bappi and Mahi, both sustain the strength of the movie. The ending is good. It's a happy ending. Time is passed very quickly. That's pretty much what this movie is trying to achieve in the minds of the viewer.The story centers around a man who has been turned down by his woman, by society, by his boring job, but most himself he has let himself down and is responsible for his own troubles. Yet he doesn't want to admit this and looks for the disease in society.As a viewer, I wasn't really drawn into the theories, because the main character is portrayed as a weak person and the theories were not very convincing because of that. As a viewer you also identify with the daughter (Ronia), but sadly her acting performance was not very good in my opinion. I didn't find her the least bit convincing and she came across as very emotionless. Yet this might have been the intention of the film makers; the product of two intelligent people who see emotion as a disease, might be an emotionless girl, no? I liked the movie and wasn't bored a single moment and it's pretty accessible for any audience I think. Sometimes it's a bit over the top (blowing up extremist Muslims), and it's not raw enough. This guy kills innocent people, and I want to see the desperation of those innocent people to really be drawn into it and feel with them.Do I recommend it? Sure. The topic is interesting enough to see passed the imperfections.
